About CURate
CURate is an independent reference site that compares US credit union and bank rates. We turn the NCUA's quarterly Credit Union and Bank Rates report into clear, answer-first pages and free calculators so you can see, at a glance, where a credit union beats a bank - and by how much.
What we publish
- A side-by-side of the national average rate at credit unions vs banks for 23 deposit and loan products.
- Calculators that show how much more you earn on savings/CDs and how much you save on a car loan at a credit union.
- A directory of the 50 largest US credit unions with size and membership facts.
- Plain-English guides: what a credit union is, NCUA share insurance, how to join, and credit union vs bank pros and cons.
How we work
Every figure traces to an authoritative, public-domain source - chiefly the NCUA Credit Union and Bank Rates report (rates as of December 26, 2025) and NCUA Call Report data. We never publish a rate we cannot source, and where the NCUA does not release a figure (such as per-credit-union rates) we say so rather than guess. Pages are generated from a committed data snapshot and reviewed before publication. See our methodology for the full detail.
Who is behind it
CURate is run by an independent editorial team focused on consumer-finance data. We are not a bank, credit union, broker or affiliate, and we do not sell financial products. Content is general information, not financial advice - see our disclaimer.
